The Sacramento Teacher Strike Continues

Today marks day two of the Sacramento teachers strike.

Union leaders and district officials met into the night last night but failed to reach a deal for what is now the second strike in the district in recent years. In 2017, the teachers unions struck a last minute deal on a new contract thanks to the help from Mayor Steinberg to increase teachers salaries by 15%. In 2019, the teachers union went out on strike for single day walk outs in yet another labor dispute.

The Sacramento City Unified school district has offered raises, bonuses, and fully paid health care, but the Sacramento City Teachers Association says the district needs to do more to address a teacher shortage, as all district schools will be closed during the strike.
