KFBK Morning News Show Recap -Wednesday June 23rd

Show Headlines:

  1. All 58 California counties have submitted their updated recall signature counts to the Secretary of State, who will certify the results, which could trigger a recall election for later this fall.
  2. September first 20-21 is the new target date for implementation of S-B 26, state legislation which would allow athletes the right to earn money from their talent and hard work while participating in college athletics. This California announcement comes alongside a U-S Supreme Court ruling issued against the NCAA saying it must abide by anti-trust laws and does not have blanket authority to deny the rights of college athletes when it comes to compensation.
  3. California recently launched a new tool that allows fully vaccinated people to create a digital copy of their vaccination card. But, for some people, the smartphone app is not working as well as planned. In some cases, the app says the state has no record of their vaccination. Other people have gotten a QR code with the wrong information. The state vaccine task force explains the most likely cause is the user's phone number or address was entered incorrectly or illegibly when they got their first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine.
  4. Federal authorities say a skydiving instructor involved in a deadly parachuting incident in Lodi is under arrest. Robert Pooley faces wire fraud and identity theft charges related to skydiving instruction classes he ran. Authorities say more than six people were victims of Pooley's scheme, including 25-year-old instructor Youg Kwon and 18-year-old Tyler Turner, who died after their tandem chute failed to open in Lodi in 2016. Pooley had a suspended teaching certificate at the time, but stole a digital signature from another instructor to file falsified paperwork with the U.S. Parachute Association for certification.
