As bad as traffic gets on 99 south after 3pm why arent there more cameras
dedicated to that area ?
Caltrans says while they have several cameras on 99, they use the older ISDN technology, rather than the new DSL service. ISDN does not have the same connectivity capability as DSL, but Caltrans is in the process of converting the remaining ISDN cameras over the next couple of months. They believe it should be done by early next year.
The welcome downward trend in gas prices isn't translating to the diesel side of the pumps.

Nikki, It was either early this past week or the week before when I heard a traffic report indicating that all the lights at an intersection were green. Obviously that's an extremely dangerous condition. I've never heard of the happening before, and I always thought that there was some sort of failsafe mechanism such that if a signal was failing, it would either go completely out or switch to all-way flashing red. Can you find out if all-green is possible? Thanks, Tom Smith
Tom, I talked with Sacramento County's traffic signal expert Doug Maas and he says they use technology called a "conflict monitor", which basically makes sure an all-green situation does not happen. So for instance, if a yellow light is too short, the conflict monitor will automatically switch the lights to flashing red...never all green. The system is checked twice a year to make sure it is working and Maas does not know of any all-green situations happening here. But he made sure to add "never say never."
