If you're not looking for it, you'd hardly know it's there. Just past Bella Vista High School, off Kenneth and Madison, lies a 100 acre ranch that turns into the "U Pick 'Em" Pumpkin Patch each October. I'd been there as a child and my editor Judy Farah took her kids there as well, but neither of us knew its story. Turns out the farm is run by a 92-year-old man who does all the planting himself. He's run the patch for thirty years, and though he's surrounded by the suburbs, he refuses to sell to developers. The reason? He wants something there for the kids.
