UC Davis will be looking to hold on to its title at the 59th annual Causeway Classic football game next month, but Sacramento State will be looking to keep their title as well.

You may have heard of blood sweat and tears on the football field, but these two schools are giving it a new meaning. Davis may have won the last Causeway Classic on the football field, but it was Sacramento State that won the fifth annual blood drive before the event. With 1,800 pints brought in, they beat Davis by just 22 pints. And with more than 1,500 donations over the past two days alone, they look to be on pace to top last year.

Students, staff and alumni, and even just supporters of either school, are encouraged to donate at a local BloodSource location sometime before the November 14th game. Just tell them which school you’d like your blood to count towards.

UPDATE: The final numbers are in, and over two days Sacramento State saw 1,762 donors, 600 of them brand new.  They collected 1,406 pints of life-saving blood.
