Typically it is a player that is one that steals the show during a football game with a dazzling pass or run into the end zone, however, a small group of teenagers without pads is grabbing the attention of fans and spectators each time they suit up. They are the Grant Drumline, a collection of musicians that pound the drums with vigor and grace to produce a melodic sound that resonates through the stadium.

Their beats do not just provide entertainment for the crowds they perform for, the drums are what keep these students in the classroom and off the streets. In a neighborhood where slacking off and finding trouble is easy to do, Music Instructor James Van Buren should get all the credit for helping a group of youngsters fulfill their dream of going to college. This may appear to be just a music group, but the students will take the lessons learned with them for their rest of their lives.
