When you're a wine geek---not a wine snob---but a geek, pretty much everything about the making, selling and quaffing of wine interests you. I began drinking wine back in the 60's, as a child, when my Dad would pour a glass of jug red for Sunday night dinner. There were a few tough moments along the way. An awful concoction called Spanada comes to mind. Gallo, I think, there version of Sangria. But through trial and error, I've learned a lot. Lately, I'm into interesting food pairings. It's cool to note how much a wine can change when paired with certain foods. It's been my experience that there are very few wines that go well with sweets, so I rarely pair them. But, I do like a nice dessert wine--a good port or late harvest viognier. It never occured to me to even thinking about drinking wine with Girl Scout Cookies, but someone more creative than me did just that.
