The Sacramento City Council is moving forward in their efforts to keep the Sacramento Kings in town.  The council voted 7 to 2 last night to begin negotiations to build a new arena.  Mayor Kevin Johnson said the vote was necessary to prove to the NBA that Sacramento is ready to put in an offer to buy the team and build a new arena.  The owners of the Kings have accepted an offer from a Seattle group, but the mayor has until Friday to submit a counter offer to the NBA.

The City Council also last night approved an ordinance that will require medical marijuana dispensaries to be no less than 1,000 feet from a school or park. Previously the dispensaries only had to be 600 feet away from public places where children play and learn.
