According to the Wall Street Journal, if Oscars were given for abusive class actions, California would take the prize. The state has been named the number one judicial hellhole this year by the American Tort Reform Foundation in its annual survey of the cost of frivolous lawsuits. The study's author says the sheer number of atrociously abusive lawsuits would make the basis of a blockbuster Hollywood comedy, were it not for their negative impact on the state's economy.
