The rain has had lots of people rushing around to finish the grape harvest, but it looks like it’s not going to do much harm. In places like Napa and Sonoma, they’re a good way thru harvest, and in our foothills, mostly the sturdier grapes are left on the vines (like cab and petite sirah) and it looks like at this time of year, it dries quickly in the hills so they don’t have to worry about mold.
Speaking of foothill and wine, I'm teaching a wine class at Lava Cap on Nov. 3rd, there will be food and wine pairings – so there will some tasty bites, and we’ll talk about some basics to help people figure it out pairs on their own.

One last foothill wine thing. This is kinda fun. Areas like El Dorado County think of themselves as Nevada’s wine country, too, so they’re celebrating Nevada Day this weekend with all kinds of fun discounts and specials for anyone from Nevada in all the tasting rooms. Plus they’re pretty nice to people from California, too.
And on the restaurant scene, this is the middle of Sacramento’s Second Annual Vegan Chef Challenge. Chefs at 22 local restaurants are doing vegan meals and specials, and people get to vote for their favorites. Restaurant include Hot Italian, Evan’s Kitchen, Tower Bridge Bistro, Grange, The Porch, 58 Degrees, Dad’s Kitchen and a bunch more. There’s info at the website www.sacveganchallenge.com.
