Defense Secretary Leon Panetta is lifting the ban on women serving in combat, "opening hundreds of thousands of front-line positions and potentially elite commando jobs after more than a decade at war."

Proponents say women are there anyway and are already in harm's way.  Opponents say women don't possess the physical strength for front line duty and standards will be lowered putting fellow soldiers at risk.
