Authorities Arrest Woman Involved In Largest Sacramento Fraud Scheme

Authorities say they arrested a woman who allegedly put together what they call the largest fraud scheme in Sacramento County.

The Sacramento District Attorney's Office said yesterday Jamie Williams-Major was taken into custody this month on nearly 170 charges for collecting a total of $2.75 million worth of unemployment claims. The office said she used false names and social security numbers of state prison inmates and identity theft victims to fill out the Employment Development Department applications. She was first arrested back in April 2021, along with six inmates who were involved directly in the fraud scheme. The DA’s office reports that two of the people Williams-Major was arrested with were already facing murder charges and several of them had prior gang-related convictions.

Williams-Major was arrested in Las Vegas and has been moved to Sacramento to face additional charges. Her arraignment is scheduled for Jan. 19.
