Despite moderate January rain in the Sierra Nevada after an historically dry December, today’s Department of Water Resources manual snow survey east of Sacramento found little snowpack there, two months into what is typically California’s wettest three months.
Measurements at Phillips Station revealed a snow water equivalent of 2.6 inches, 14% of the early-February average at Phillips.
Doug Carlson with the Department of Water Resources says it's not all bad news though - we still have until April for water levels to increase, and our reservoirs are still doing well.
Right now it looks like it will be dry February, but Carlson says they're hoping for some storms to blow in from the Pacific.
