Body Cam Footage Shows Officer Saving Woman From Suicide

Dramatic police body camera footage shows the rescue of an suicidal woman on a bridge over the American River and the heroic work of a police lieutenant who rescued her.

The 20-year lieutenant, who prefers to remain anonymous, attempts to engage the woman in conversation.

The woman climbs over the ledge, which was described as only two inches wide.

"Hold on, dear. Don't do that. Don't do that," the lieutenant said. "Get on this side. Don't do it. What's wrong, honey? What's wrong?"

The video then shows the officer sprint toward the woman before the video goes dark as he grabs her.

"You're alright, you're alright. I'm not trying to hurt you," he's heard saying to her.

The woman was then taken to a hospital for a mental health evaluation.
