Justice Kathryn Werdegar Retires

After 23 years on the California Supreme Court bench, Justice Kathryn Werdegar has retired.

Werdegar, who is 81, was appointed by Governor Pete Wilson in 1994.

Her retirement means that Governor Jerry Brown now gets to select a justice who could be the potentially decisive vote on the seven-member panel.

71-year-old Justice Ming Chin is now the longest-serving member of the California Supreme Court.
