President Barack Obama awarded the Medal of Honor to Army Staff Sergeant Ty M. Carter today.
The Medal of Honor is the military’s highest decoration, and Carter was given the honor because of the heroism he displayed during an intense battle of the Afghanistan war.
President Obama called Carter a "true American hero."
Carter rescued a fellow soldier and carried him through gun fire, unarmed during a battle on Oct. 3, 2009. Eight soldiers were killed in the battle and 22 were wounded.
