There's a new commuter car entering the market that aims to get you out of your gas guzzler -- it has three cylinders and just three wheels.
The Elio is an 850-pound tricycle that gets 84 miles per gallon on the highway and 49 in the city. It's 100 percent made in the USA and costs just $6,800. Two passengers can fit inside -- sitting in tandem -- and the five speed gearbox can take you to 107 mile per hour.
The silver bullet -- which looks a bit like a spaceship -- won't hit the road until next summer but it's builders say there's plenty of interest. They promise it will pass federal crash tests at the highest level and can be insured as a motorcycle instead of a traditional car -- saving even more money.
The Elio is being shown off at the Folsom Premium Outlets from 1 p.m. to 7 p.m. today and KFBK's Mike Simpson got a sneak preview.
