Foster care students are dropping out at a higher rate and not performing academically as well as other children.
It's called the invisible achievement gap. A study shows students in foster care are not performing at the same rates as others, falling behind in schooling and dropping out of high school at a higher rate.
The report says foster students are scoring lower than all other student groups, including those with disabilities and limited English. And their high school drop out rate is more than twice the number of other students.
Sleep Train Mattress Centers has long recognized the challenges faced by foster kids. The company has created a number of charitable programs to get foster kids school supplies, clothing and other items to help offset the emotional problems and set backs many of them face.
