Lou Reed's transplant doctor says the rocker died of advanced liver disease.
The Cleveland Clinic's Dr. Charles Miller tells the "New York Times" that Reed was back under his care last week.
Miller, who gave Reed a new liver back in April, explains that Lou had end-stage liver disease and was released from the Ohio facility shortly before he died.
He says Reed chose to go back home after they "all agreed" they had done "everything" they could for him.
Lou Reed died at his Long Island, New York, home on Sunday at the age of 71.
