Democrats in Sacramento are refusing to get behind a proposal to give Mayor Kevin Johnson more authority.
Sacramento County Democrats plan to publicly come out against the Sacramento Tomorrow group's Strong Mayor proposal. Representative Kerri Asbury says the change is not needed in City of Sacramento government.
"And I think that was seen with Measure M, on the ballot last November, where the people voted overwhelmingly -- by over 70 percent -- defeating that measure," Asbury said.
The council will vote Tuesday on placing this new measure on the ballot to increase the power of the mayor, but Asbury says it's more important to have transparency at city hall.
She believes establishing a strong mayor policy won't achieve that goal but an ethics commission would.
