SACRAMENTO -- CalTrans is working on a plan engineers say could improve the afternoon traffic jam that hits the eastbound Cap City Freeway in Midtown Sacramento.
Traffic is oftentimes very congested on eastbound Cap City right around the E Street onramp. CalTrans is considering a plan to close that onramp and extend four of the five lanes of the freeway to the American River Bridge near Cal Expo.
CalTrans is hoping that it will give them an extended auxiliary lane where a more delayed forced push of the traffic will occur, CalTrans spokesman Dennis Keaton said.
Keaton admits that will put more cars on Midtown streets, but it seems to be the best solution so far. The cost of the proposed project would be about $7 million.
