SAN FRANCISCO -- In less than a week, the Bay Bridge will shut down to make way for the new eastern span. The CHP and CalTrans are urging drivers to plan ahead.
CHP spokesman Sam Morgan says motorists should also avoid driving on the bridge right before it shuts down Wednesday night at 8 p.m.
The closure will remain in effect through the Labor Day weekend until 5 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 3. CalTrans posted an animated video of what drivers can expect once the new bridge opens the day after Labor Day.
